Israeli Forces Kill Three Palestinian Gunmen

Israeli Soldiers

Israeli forces have killed three Palestinian gunmen who they say opened fire on troops in the occupied West Bank, in the latest bout of violence to hit the troubled region.

Another shooter surrendered and was captured, IDF sources said.

The Palestinian health ministry reported three individuals were murdered near the city of Nablus on Sunday. It did not reveal their identities immediately. Israel has intensified arrest raids in the West Bank, which has resulted in the deaths of 80 Palestinians since the beginning of the year. 14 individuals have been murdered by Palestinian assaults in 2023.

The event occurred a week after an Israeli military raid in which three Palestinian militants were slain in the West Bank hamlet of Jaba. In the hours that followed, a Palestinian gunman opened fire on a busy Tel Aviv boulevard at the beginning of the Israeli weekend, wounded three people before being shot and killed by Israeli security forces.

According to Israel, the raids are necessary to destroy extremist networks and prevent future assaults. Yet, attacks appear to be intensifying rather than decreasing.

The violence between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank is among the worst in years. It began last spring after Palestinian violence against Israelis provoked near-nightly Israeli operations in the West Bank.
