Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Resort Searched by FBI

Former US President Donald Trump

The FBI has executed a search warrant at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, reportedly looking for evidence as part of an investigation into the handling of presidential documents.

Trump confirmed in a statement that FBI agents were at Mar-a-Lago, calling the situation a “siege”. The former President was at Trump Tower in New York at the time of the search.

“My beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump said, noting that “they even broke into my safe”.

The move to search the home of a former president is a major one, and adds to Trump’s mounting legal woes. The Justice Department currently has two open investigations into him, with events surrounding the 2020 presidential election still under scrutiny as well as the allegations regarding the handling of classified information.

The FBI search appeared to focus on Trump’s office and in particular the storage of documents. Boxes of items were seen being taken away from the property.

Trump’s attorney Christina Bobb confirmed that the FBI seized documents. “President Trump and his legal team have been cooperative with FBI and DOJ officials every step of the way. The FBI did conduct an unannounced raid and seized paper,” Bobb said
