Mediapro Takes America's Cup To Southern Asia

October 12, 2015 – Mediapro is to distribute the broadcasting rights of the America’s Cup sailing competition across 18 territories in Southern Asia and India through to 2017.

Following an agreement with the America’s Cup Event Authority (ACEA), Mediapro is to commercialise the cup’s world series and qualifiers during 2015-2016 and the finals, which are to be held in Bermuda between May and July 2017.

Rights will be distributed for Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Thailand.

Mediapro is already working across the Asian market, in which it distributes the rights to Spain’s La Liga football and Brazil’s Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A.

“Owning America’s Cup rights will increase our sports content offer for our partners in Asia and we are going to do our best to secure wide broadcasting of this kind of event,” pointed out Salauddin Sulaiman Sinnakandu, senior director Mediapro Asia.

“We are sure Mediapro Asia is the right partner to identify the best broadcasting agreements for America’s Cup in Asia’s key territories,” added Harvey Schiller, commissioner, America’s Cup.
