Body Of Missing Yachtsman Found Near Washed Up Boat

June 24, 2015 – A body believed to be that of a missing Australian yachtsman off Victoria’s far east coast has been found.

Emergency services had been searching for the yachtsman since his boat was found washed up on rocks at Mallacoota about 9.45am on Monday.

Crew on an abalone boat spotted the stricken yacht and raised the alarm.

The man’s body was found near the yacht  about 9am this morning. It was recovered from the water and flown to Mallacoota.

Police believe the yachtsman is a 65-year-old Wodonga man, who left Paynesville for Eden on Saturday, but never arrived at his destination.

Water Police, the State Emergency Service, Parks Victoria, the Coast Guard, Helimed and members of RAAF Search and Rescue were involved in the search.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
