February 3, 2016 – Volvo Cars posted a 9.4 percent increase in retail sales for the month of January, maintaining its ascending pace in China.
With global sales of 33,761 cars for the last month, Volvo has begun the year in good spirit as it aims to reach another record year in 2016. China was Volvo’s biggest market in January with sales amounting to 7,228 cars, up 22.9 percent versus the same month last year.
This follows a strong end of 2015 during which Volvo reported more than 15 percent increases for November and December in China. The sales lift came from the locally produced Volvo XC60 and S60L models, as well from the new Volvo XC90. The United States market reported 4,243 deliveries, an 11.8 percent rise. The demand was again boosted by a strong performance of the XC90 SUV, which was also the best-selling Volvo model in the US for the month.
Retail sales in Europe as a whole rose by 6.6 percent to a total of 16,951 cars. Several key markets including Sweden, Belgium and Germany reported increasing sales, with the XC60 being the best-selling model. For the full year 2015, Volvo Cars reported a record retail sale of 503,127 cars, up 8.0 percent compared to a year earlier, thus marking the first time it has overpassed more than half a million cars in company’s history.
The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in January with 10,214 sold cars (10,403 vehicles in 2015), followed by the new XC90 for which deliveries reached 6,219 cars. V40 and V40 Cross Country were the third best-selling models, accounting for 6,165 cars units.
