PlayStation 3 Version Of PES 2016 Outsells PlayStation 4 In Japan

October 7, 2015 – Pro Evolution Soccer 2016’s Japanese launch has highlighted the huge number of gamers still playing on older consoles.

According to the latest data from Famitsu, Konami’s football title would’ve claimed the retail chart top spot during its first week if platform sales were combined, shifting over 96,500 units between PS3 and PS4.

Of these two machines, Sony’s older console proved significantly more popular. Almost 18,000 more copies of the title were sold on PS3 than PS4, with the former version taking second place in the charts.

However, the different SKUs are separated in Famitsu’s rankings, leading new Vita game Tokyo Xanadu to swipe the number one position with 93,288 sales.

PES 2016 and Tokyo Xanadu led a week full of fresh releases, with newcomers Yoru no Nai Kuni, Picross 3DS 2 and movie spin-off Mad Max also breaking into the Top Ten.

Although PS3 may have bested its younger sibling in the software rankings, PS4 was the biggest-selling console of the week. The home machine outsold handheld rival New Nintendo 3DS XL by over 25,000 sales.
